In a time when information on any topic is at our fingertips, it is sad to find so many misconceptions involving matters eternal. The proof of this is found in an endless stream of thoughtless assumptions about Christianity within its own fraternity.
In chapter four of George Barna’s book,What Americans Believe, his group posed this statement to random respondents identifying themselves as born again Christians:
“Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, and others all pray to the same God, even though they use different names for that God.” They were then asked whether they agree strongly, agree somewhat, disagree somewhat or disagree strongly with that statement.
Of that population, 30 percent agreed strongly, 18 percent agreed somewhat and 12 percent did not know. That is a total of 60 percent! If one was challenged to prove that these were wrong in this belief, to what irrefutable source would that person need to go?
From many thousands of available resources, there is only one that is completely trustworthy. That of course, is the pure and inspired Word of the living God. Although within the Holy Canon, hundreds of verses can be found to disprove their position, one in particular is most sufficient.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6
But why should we believe this man, Jesus? Because He was not just a man; He was the God-Man! John 1:1-3 speaks of Him:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
Here, John the Beloved speaks of Jesus, the Son of God. The Holy Scriptures are the written Word inspired by the third member of the Holy Trinity, the Holy Spirit of God. He is the same member who indwells all who have been born again making Himself available to perform his perfect work in their lives.
The Word of God is in fact, the universal standard of truth … the plumb line, by which Christians should be living their lives. For centuries, mankind has searched the world over for truth only to discover that their findings often collapse beneath their feet. On the other hand, God’s Word is the solid foundation on which believers should be building their lives, their families and their countries. When we finally choose to put Jesus first in our lives and accept God’s Word as truth, we truly can’t lose for winning!
